**Big Ideas in Math****Knowledge Targets**- Students must know a number represents a quantity and that quantity can be shown in different ways (e.g., 5 = 2+3 and 5 = 4+1).

**Reasoning Targets**- Students must be able to decompose numbers less than or equal to 10.
- Students must understand that a set of objects can be broken apart in multiple ways (3 and 2: 4 and 1)
- Students must understand that decomposing a number does not change its value.
- Students must understand when decomposing numbers that a smaller set of objects exists within the larger set of objects.

**Performance Targets**- Students must show how to decompose a number less than or equal to 10 using objects, drawings, or equations.
- Students must show how to decompose a number less than or equal to 10 in multiple pairs (e.g., 6 = 3 + 3 and 6 = 2 + 4)

**Product Targets**- Students record drawings or equations to show different number pairs for a number less than or equal to 10.
